这种沥青是由将两三百度的热空气吹到纯沥青上而得。就其强度而言,纯沥青的强度较低,但更柔和,对温度变化的敏感度较低。SHRP 发明了独特的沥青分类法。

这种分类法基于对沥青及其特性的了解,具有抗变形、抗冷裂、抗裂耗竭、预测沥青在工厂中的硬度以及何时达到饱和度、沥青的硬度如何随时间变化、以及第一级和第二级的温度变化。
