Bitutainer
Flexible, Reusable, and Globally-Compliant Bitumen Transport Solution
At Black Gold, we understand that efficiency doesn’t end at the refinery — it extends to every kilometer your bitumen travels. Our bitumen tank containers, commonly referred to as bitutainers, offer the ultimate in flexibility, capacity, and safety for international and intermodal transport of bitumen and its derivatives.
Whether you’re shipping hot bitumen, emulsions, cutbacks, or PMBs, bitutainers provide a fully enclosed, thermally optimized, and reusable transport solution that meets international standards and minimizes environmental impact.

What is a Bitutainer?
A bitutainer is a specialized ISO tank container engineered to carry hot or cold bitumen and other viscous petroleum products across land and sea. These tanks are integrated into steel frames, allowing them to fit seamlessly into standard 20-foot or 40-foot shipping slots, making them ideal for multimodal logistics — road, rail, and marine.
Bitutainers serve both as a transport solution and mobile storage unit, particularly valuable for project sites, temporary depots, or remote infrastructure zones where fixed storage is unavailable.
Available Sizes & Capacities
They are available in two standard container footprints: 20-foot (20′ FCL) and 40-foot (40′ FCL). However, it’s important to note that the overall capacity of each Bitutainer is determined by the internal tank configuration, not just the external container size.
20′ FCL Bitutainers typically accommodate internal tank capacities ranging from 18,000 to 24,000 liters, depending on insulation, heating requirements, and structural reinforcements.
40′ FCL Bitutainers can house larger tank volumes, generally in the range of 27,000 to 35,000 liters, again based on internal tank design and specific operational needs.
Both options are engineered to maximize space utilization, meet international transport regulations, and maintain product integrity during long-distance transit. Whether your project demands compact deployment or high-volume storage, our Bitutainers offer a scalable solution tailored to your logistics.
Why Use Bitutainers?
Bitutainers offer a perfect balance of mobility, safety, and capacity for customers seeking reusable packaging for bitumen and related materials.
Key Advantages
✅ Dual Functionality: Transport + Storage
Bitutainers can be used for both shipping and on-site storage, eliminating the need for additional infrastructure.
✅ Cost-Effective Reusability
Unlike drums or flexitanks, bitutainers are reusable assets, which significantly reduce per-shipment costs over time.
✅ Precise Temperature Control
Equipped with thermal insulation and optional heating coils, bitutainers maintain the ideal viscosity during transport and discharge.
✅ Global Transport Compatibility
Fully intermodal — suitable for sea, rail, and road without the need for repackaging.
✅ Safe & Secure
Leak-proof construction, pressure-tested steel tanks, and top-loading systems ensure maximum operational safety.
Use Cases
- International Bulk Exports from refinery to port storage
- Mobile supply tanks for construction and roadwork projects
- Off-site project storage in developing or remote regions
- Rail & sea transfers where packaging waste is a concern
Discharge & Handling
Bitutainers are designed for both bottom and top discharge, depending on the configuration. With built-in insulation and optional electric or thermal oil heating systems, discharge is clean, controlled, and efficient — even in cold climates or elevated altitudes.
⚠️ Our loading masters ensure temperature calibration and tank readiness before every shipment.
Conclusion: When operational costs, environmental responsibility, and ease of use are top priorities, jumbo bags offer unmatched value.
